Marketing is the process of planning and carrying out the packaging, pricing, publicity, and distribution of your book. Not even the best book will reach the right readers without careful attention to these details. Winoca Press will deliver to you a high-quality book to sell and will communicate its availability to the public through a variety of channels. Winoca Press titles are also available in independent and chain bookstores and online booksellers through a variety of distribution arraignments.

Secret marketing weapon: the author
The best marketing resource for any book is the author. The author knows his or her subject inside and out, as well as where to find readers for the book. Winoca Press prepares a marketing plan, in conjunction with the author, for every book, to identify likely sources and outlets for sales. This plan is based on comparative information on similar titles as well as on a questionnaire completed by the author.

Local and chain bookstores are great places to start when thinking about selling books, but what about other natural tie-ins such as clubs, organizations, and special interest groups? Every author has a unique appeal and should inventory their networks and affiliations for possible bookselling opportunities.

Publicity: generating free buzz
Publicity is what the media and the public say about your book and although you can't control it, you can take steps to get it going. This is usually done by issuing a message to a particular audience about the release of a new book and its relevance or significance.

Prior to the launch of each new title, Winoca Press sends press releases to all major media outlets in the author's home state, and/or in the locale of the setting of the book, or other relevant news outlets with a tie to the book. Press releases are also sent to specialized publications upon the author's request. Review copies are sent to the major daily newspapers in the author's home state that review books. Any member of the media may log onto the Winoca Press web site and request a review copy from the publisher.

Reviews of all Winoca books are archived. Authors should alert the publisher when news items appear in regional or local outlets, so that clippings can be used to generate further interest.

Promotions
Authors may also generate awareness and positive buzz by organizing special promotional events, such as readings, book signings, lectures, festival appearances, and book club discussions. Winoca Press is available for consultation regarding promotions; booking coordination of events is the author's responsibility. Winoca will assist in publicizing promotions via the web site, and can provide existing marketing materials to event outlets.

Sales and distribution
Marketing, publicity, and promotion activities are all undertaken with one ultimate goal: to sell books to as many bookstores and individual readers as possible. Winoca Press assists authors by providing book order forms, sales tax charts, and other aids.
